FUSD expands sports medicine support at Flagstaff High School

Flagstaff Unified School District has approved a two-year agreement with Flagstaff Bone and Joint that adds an assistant athletic trainer and expands sports medicine services for student-athletes at Flagstaff High School.
The agreement runs from Aug. 1, 2026, through July 31, 2028. FUSD will hire, supervise and evaluate the assistant athletic trainer, while Flagstaff Bone and Joint will pay the position’s salary and benefits.
The assistant trainer will work with the school’s head athletic trainer on injury prevention, clinical evaluations, immediate care, rehabilitation, practice and event coverage and other sports medicine services. The position also will provide mentorship and instruction to students in FHS’s Career and Technical Education Sports Medicine program.
FHS Principal Libby Miller said the school has seen record numbers of students trying out for athletics this year, with programs operating from early morning into the evening.
