History-maker talks inspiration, education, leadership
TSAILE, Ariz.
For inspiration and examples of success, the list of female leaders at Diné College includes Maggie George, Marie Etsitty Nez and Geraldine Garrity, according to a Diné College news release.
George was president of Diné College from 2011 to 2015. Etsitty Nez served as interim president from 2010 to 2011 and is currently the vice president for external affairs.
Garrity was named provost – the second in command at the college – in 2017, the first female to hold that job. Joy Sells Hanley was an interim president in 1980.
Others might want to learn from their lessons, Cassandra Manuelito-Kerkvliet, Ph.D., told about a dozen or so members of the audience Nov. 29 at Diné College’s final leg of the 2018 50th anniversary Speaker Series.
The two-hour talk, held at the Student Union Building, was titled, “My Climb to the Highest Rung,” and covered the history-making career of Manuelito-Kerkvliet.
