The 25th Navajo Nation Council renewed its push to account for $24 million linked to Executive Branch contracts with ZenniHome during the controller’s report at the Spring Session last week, and President Buu Nygren’s office responded Wednesday with a Facebook post saying no money has gone missing and accusing Speaker Crystalyne Curley of advancing a misleading narrative ahead of her run for the presidency.
Controller Sean McCabe said his office can confirm a wire of $23.5 million was sent to Indigenous Design Studio + Architecture LLC on Jan. 7, 2025, and that as of now he is unaware of any ZenniHome houses that have been delivered.
“The Office of the Controller can confirm that a wire was made to IDSA on January 7, 2025, for $23.5 million and as of now is unaware of any ZenniHome delivered,” McCabe said Wednesday evening. “This issue has caused significant internal strife as accountability is consistently dodged and messaging is inconsistent and, in some cases, just not true. The Office of the Controller can and will not be a part of political messaging and will always tell the story as it is and in the best interest of the people’s money.”
