Obituaries for April 18, 2019

Truman W. Smith

ST. MICHAELS, Ariz. — Funeral services for Truman W. Smith, 48, of Woodsprings, Arizona, were held April 17 at the St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michaels, Arizona, with Father José Gutay officiating. Interment followed in Kinlichee, Arizona.

Truman was born Nov. 17, 1971, in Ganado, Arizona, into the Tó’aheedlíinii (Water Flow Together Clan), born for Tsi’naajinii (Black Streak Wood People Clan). He passed away April 14, 2019, in Woodsprings.

Truman was a traditional medicine man and rug weaver who enjoyed helping people with cooking.

Truman is survived by his sisters, Ladora Smith, Lavonne Smith and Laveene Smith; and nine grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were family members and friends.

Silver Creek Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Shannon L. Elliott

GALLUP — Funeral services for Shannon L. Elliott, 43, were held April 15 at Rollie Mortuary in Gallup. Interment followed at the Gallup City Cemetery.

Shannon was born Sept. 15, 1975, in Gallup, into the Tódích’íi’nii (Bitter Water Clan), born for Áshiihí (Salt People Clan). She passed away April 10, 2019, in Albuquerque.

Shannon is survived by her mother, Linda Sherman of Gallup; son, Isaiah Walters of Albuquerque; daughters, Delilah Walters, Gabrielle Walters and Aurora Elliott of Albuquerque; and sisters, Deana Barker of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Donna Halona of Albuquerque, Shery Sanchez of Albuquerque, Andrea Sherman and Sharon Chavez of Isleta, New Mexico.

Pallbearers were Aerol Sherman, Erik Willeto, Allister Niiha, Preston Chavez, Jeremiah Niiha and Micheal Price.

Rollie Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Julius J. Jim

WINDOW ROCK — Funeral services for Julius J. Jim, 48, of Fort Defiance, were held April 13 at the United Methodist Church in Window Rock, with Pastor Steven Joe officiating. Interment followed at the family plot in Navajo Station, Arizona.

Julius was born Dec. 19, 1970, in Fort Defiance, into the Tsénjíkiní (Honey Combed Rock People Clan), born for Ta’neeszahnii (Tangle Clan). He passed away April 9, 2019, in Fort Defiance.

Julius graduated from Window Rock High School in 1988 and attended the Universal Technical Institute in Phoenix, graduating in 2002 as an automotive/diesel mechanic. He was employed as a carpenter with McBride’s Welding and Auto in Albuquerque.

Julius was an avid loyal sports fan of the San Antonio Spurs and San Francisco 49ers. He liked fishing, spending time with his family and enjoyed the company of his nieces and nephews.

Julius is survived by his partner of seven years, Denise Yazzie; parents, Elizabeth A. Jim and Joe J. Jim; sisters, Charlene A. Jim and Taishayla B. Jim; grandmother, Rose Benally; and five grandchildren by nieces and nephews.

Julius is preceded in death by his brothers, Lyle J. Jim and Juliuson J. Jim; uncle, Nelson Benally; maternal grandfather, Hosteen E. Benally; and paternal grandparents, Lucy Ben Jim and Allen Jim.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

Tse Bonito Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Paul Sherman

SHEEPSPRINGS, N.M. — Funeral services are pending for Paul Sherman, 88, of Sheepsprings, New Mexico.

Paul was born Feb. 11, 1931, in Sheepsprings. He passed away April 15, 2019, in Farmington.

Paul is in the care of Desert View Funeral Home in Shiprock.
