Dr. Freda Garnanez

GALLUP – Funeral services for Dr. Freda Garnanez, 81, of Shiprock, will be held Monday, May 4, at 10 a.m., at the Bethany CRC Church in Gallup. Burial will follow in Rehoboth, New Mexico.

Dr. Freda Garnanez, Jan. 1, 1945 – April 23, 2026

Garnanez was born Jan. 1, 1945, in Crownpoint, into the Kinłichíi’nii (Red House People Clan), born for Tábąąhá (Water’s Edge Clan). Her nálí is ‘Áshįįhí (Salt People); cheii is Kiyaa’áanii (Towering House). She passed away April 23, 2026, in Shiprock.

Garnanez earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration, master’s degree in education, and Doctor of Education in Leadership for Change. She worked for Fairchild, The Ute Tribe, Navajo Community College and San Juan College.

Garnanez enjoyed singing and playing the piano, keyboard and guitar.

Garnanez is survived by her siblings, Benjamin Henry Sr., Eleanor Light and Ronda Clichee.

Garnanez is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Garnanez; son, Sheldon Garnanez; and Bennie and Hazel Henry.

Pallbearers will be Faron Light, Xavier Light, Shontaye Blackwater, Uriel Tilden, Francis Yazzie and Robert Bowman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Benjamin Henry Sr., Randall Clichee, Jeff Clichee, Levon Henry, Faron Light, Calvin Garnanez, and Nelvin Garnanez.

A reception will take place at the Bethany Church following services.

Desert View Funeral Home oversaw arrangements.


 

Veronica G. Lee

GALLUP – Funeral services for Veronica G. Lee, 86, of Los Angeles, California, will be held Friday, May 1, at 1 p.m., at Rollie Mortuary in Gallup, with Father Henry Dabang officiating. Burial will follow at the Sunset Memorial Park.

Veronica G. Lee, Jan. 18, 1940 – April 14, 2026

Veronica was born Jan. 18, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois. She passed away April 14, 2026, in Van Nuys, California.

Veronica graduated from Gallup Cathedral High School in 1958 and held a long and respected career working with Trans World Airlines until her retirement.

Veronica will be remembered for her strength, fierce independence, cheerful spirit, and resilience in the face of challenge, as well as her love for animals.

Veronica is survived by extended family and close friends.

Veronica is preceded in death by her son, Phillip Anthony Lee Jr.

Pallbearers will be George Llewellyn, John Williams, Louis Williams, and Kevin Jackson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Norman Llewellyn and Dan Gustafson.

Rollie Mortuary oversaw arrangements.
