HUNTER’S POINT, Ariz. – A funeral mass and service will be held for Harrison Pahe, 57, on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018 at the Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Fort Defiance, Ariz. A viewing will be held at 9 a.m. and mass will start at 10 a.m.

Harrison was born on March 26, 1961 into the Honaghanii (One Who Walks Around Clan), born for Tsinajinnie (Black Streaked People Clan).

He was born at the old Fort Defiance Indian Hospital and grew up in Fort Wingate, N.M. with his sister and brothers.

He died on Sept. 11, 2018 in San Francisco, Calif. He lived in San Francisco for the past six years where he worked as a Chef.

Harrison attended Wingate High School. He enjoyed fishing, grilling, cooking, reading, drawing and most of all, spending time with his children.

He was a proud military veteran and served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Division.

Harrison is survived by his wife Bernadette Pahe; son Jordan Pahe; daughters Chasity, Chantel and Gracielynn; parents Harold Pahe, Sr. and Louise Begay; sister Brenda (Pahe) Arviso; brothers Gary Pahe and Harold Pahe, Jr.; grandchildren Gilbert, Evelyn and Kiera.

Harrison was preceded in death by his grandparents Oscar and Ada Marie Wilson; aunt Gloria Wilson; uncles Curtis Wilson and Kelly Wilson.

Honorary Pallbearers are Harold Pahe, Sr., Gary Pahe, Harold Pahe, Jr. and Gilbert Tewahaftewa.

Pallbearers are Beau Redd, Orlando Otero, Johnny Gonzales, Derek Scott and Randy Scott.

Harrison will be laid to rest at the Fort Defiance Veterans Cemetery. A reception will be held following the service at the Fort Defiance Chapter House.

Summit Funeral Home of St. Michaels, Ariz. is in charge of arrangements.

Rena Deschner

LOW MOUNTAIN, Ariz. — Graveside service for Rena Deschner, 85, of Low Mountain, Arizona, was held Sept. 18 in Low Mountain, with Evangelist Samuel Walker officiating. Interment followed at a private family plot in Low Mountain.

Rena was born March 15, 1933, into the Áshiihí (Salt People Clan), born for Tl’ááshchí’í (Red Bottom People Clan). She died Sept. 12, 2018, in Flagstaff. Rena was a homemaker and well-known Christian lady who went out of her way to help her family, relatives and community members. She was also a well-known inspirational singer who was asked to sing around the area. Rena is survived by her son, Freeman Deschner; daughters, Elsie Harvill, LaVerne Deschner-Dillon, and Alberta Deschner; sisters, Mae Ben, Marilyn Thompson, and Arlene Morris; and nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Rena is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Deschner; and parents, Mary and Tom Ben.

Pallbearers were Freeman Deschner, Riley Deschner, Matthew Dillon, Sean Dillon, Kendrick Deschner, and Kerwin G. Ben. Honorary pallbearers were Ryan Deschner, Roland Deschner, Brian P. Dillon, Travis George, and Cedric R. Ingram. Silver Creek Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

George Willie

LEUPP, Ariz. — A memorial service for Navajo Code Talker George Willie, 92, will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, at 10 a.m. at the Leupp First Presbyterian Church (Navajo Route 2 between milepost 2 and 3).

A motorcycle procession, escorted by the Winslow Police Department, begins at Leupp Public School to the church at 9 a.m. George passed away Dec. 5, 2017, and served in the Marine Corps with the second Marine Division from 1943 to 1946. Navajo Nation President Russell Begaye and Vice President Jonathan Nez are invited. Sín Ilííníí Singers will sing a favorite hymn of George followed by a meal.

Charlene Rose Dodson

CHINLE — Funeral services for Charlene Rose Dodson, 73, of Chinle, were held Sept. 13 at the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Chinle, with Danny Halwood officiating. Interment followed in Chinle.

Charlene was born July 30, 1945, in Ganado, Arizona, into the Hashtl’ishnii (Mud Clan), born for Naasht’ézhí Tábaahá. She died Sept. 8, 2018, in Chinle. Charlene received a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies and business administration from Northern Arizona University. She enjoyed sewing, baking and cooking.

Charlene is survived by her daughters, Lawanda Dodson, Cherylene James, and Michele Dodson; brothers, Marlin Gorman, Robert Gorman Jr., and Walter Gorman; sisters, Lorene Brown, Roberta Foley, and Jennifer Begay; and seven grandchildren. Charlene is preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Robert Gorman Sr.; grandson, Michael James; maternal grandparents, Pauline Manuelito and Walter Blatchford; and paternal grandparents, Martha and Arthur Gorman. Pallbearers were Antonio Begay, Peterson Begay, Tristan Largo, Lyle Whitehorse, Lamuel Brown, and Sonny Brown.

Honorary pallbearers were Marlin Gorman, Robert Gorman Jr., Walter Gorman, Miles James, and Antraio Begay. Summit Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Verncina Ann Scott

FORT DEFIANCE — Funeral services for Verncina Ann Scott, 34, of Fort Defiance, are pending. Verncina was born June 18, 1984, in Fort Defiance, into the Hashk’aa hadzohí (Yucca Fruit-Strung-Out-In-A-Line Clan), born for Áshiihí (Salt People Clan). Verncina graduated from Window Rock High School and was a homemaker.

She enjoyed music, volleyball, taking walks, watching TV, reading, spending time with friends, and taking care of her daughters. Verncina is survived by her daughters, Jaylincina Pete, Shaylincina Pete, and Ray Keisha Pete; parents, Vera Jones Scott and Anthony Scott Sr.; brothers, Vernon Yazzie, Aaron Scott, Aaronson Scott, and Eric Scott; sister, Verlincina Scott; and grandparents, Reah and Joe Scott, and Irene Rose Sampson and Louis Jones Yazzie.

Verncina is preceded in death by Anthony Scott Jr., Anthonita Scott, Ericson Scott, and Everettson Scott.

Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
