Abel McCabe Begay

PAGE, Ariz. – Funeral services for Abel McCabe Begay were held March 2 at the LDS Church in Page, Ariz. Interment followed at the Begay Butler family plot, located seven miles east of Gap, Ariz.

Abel was born Aug. 17, 1953, in Kanab, Utah, to Abe and Rebecca Begay, the sixth of 11 siblings. His maternal clan is Kinyaa’áanii (Towering House) and paternal clan is Tódich’ii’nii (Bitter Water). He died Feb. 26, 2016, in Page.

Abel is survived by his companion, Candice of Mayer, Ariz.; son, Adel Bahe Begay Lopez (Lorena); and granddaughter, Callia of Flagstaff; siblings, Arlene Salazar (Eugene) of Flagstaff, Alberta Sanchez (Carlos) of Flagstaff, Louis Begay (Cathy) of Clarksville, Ky., and Leonard Begay of Page, Ameretta Yazzie (Norman) of Flagstaff, Albert Begay of Page, Bernda Tsinnijinnie (Clyde) of Page, Verda Riddle of Page, and Abe Jr., who died as an infant in Kanab; and stepbrothers, Raymond A. Begay of Fort Defiance, and Richard L. Begay (Terri) of White Sands, N.M. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and many longtime friends.

Abel worked in Kayenta at the Black Mesa Coal Mine, at Seaward Construction on power lines, and many other construction businesses. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping, and traveling. He also enjoyed baking, especially yeast bread, which he shared with the neighbors up and around his neighborhood. He will be missed, but we know he is with Mom and Dad and will be watching over us still. He leaves us with mountains of memories and much love.

Arrangements were made with Mosdell Mortuary of Kanab, Utah.

Christopher Yazzie

LUKACHUKAI, Ariz. – Funeral services for Christopher Yazzie, 28, of Round Rock, Ariz., were held Feb. 27 at the Lukachukai Catholic Church in Lukachukai, Ariz., with Father Florecito Pabatao officiating. Interment followed at the family plot in Round Rock.

Christopher was born June 27, 1987, in Chinle, into the Kinyaa’áanii (Towering House Clan), born for Tótsohnii (Big Water Clan). He died Feb. 18, 2016, in Phoenix.

Christopher attended Rough Rock High School and enjoyed riding/training horses and working on vehicles. He took care of his grandmother, tended to his livestock, and helped the community with wood hauling.

Christopher is survived by his son, Bryson Chris Yazzie; daughter, Bryanna Ellen Yazzie; mother, Kathy A. Woody; and brother, Jonathan Lee Yazzie.

Christopher is preceded in death by his grandmother, Betty Woody.

Pallbearers were Jameson Curley, Michael Woody, Tyler Woody, Emerson Jumbo, Nilton Nez, and Justin Lee.

Honorary pallbearers were Jonathan Lee Yazzie, James Curley, Harry J. Woody, Jerry Woody, and Jerrod Woody.

Silver Creek Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
