Tonie Arviso Becenti Sr.

CROWNPOINT – Funeral services for Tonie Arviso Becenti Sr., 87, will be held today, May 5, at 10 a.m. at the St. Paul Catholic Church in Crownpoint. Burial will follow in Muholland Wells, N.M.

Tonie was born May 8, 1929, in Rehoboth, N.M., into the Tó’aheedliinii (The Water Flow Together Clan), born for Kiyaa’aanii (Towering House Clan). His nali is Naasht’ézhi dine’é (Zuni); chei is Tsenabahilnii (Sleep Rock People). He died May 1, 2016, in Albuquerque.

Tonie attended Crownpoint BIA School and Albuquerque Indian School. He served in the Army from Dec. 14, 1950 to Jan. 6, 1956. He was a rodeo cowboy, Navajo Nation Council delegate from 1967 to 1971, Becenti Chapter president from 1980 to 1982, Becenti Chapter secretary from 1963 to 1966, and Fish and Wildlife officer.

Tonie is survived by his wife, Lucy K. Becenti; son, Herbert T. Becenti; daughters, Matilda B. Smith, Geneva A. Murphy, Tonilee Becenti, Arthurene Becenti, Stephaine B. Jeff, and Ernestine Alston; and 27 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Tonie is preceded in death by his son, Tony A. Becenti Jr.; brothers, Edison and Monty A. Becenti; grandson, DuJuan Alston; and parents, Herbert and Christine A. Becenti.

Pallbearers will be Shawn T.I. Smith, Kyle L. Smith, Tyler R. Alston, Byron Murphy, Nicholas K. Alston, and Spc. Kevin Jeff.

Rosemary Jarvison

TOHATCHI, N.M. – Funeral services for Rosemary Jarvison, 83, will be held Friday, May 6, at 10 a.m. at the United Pentecostal Church in Tohatchi, N.M. Burial will follow at the Tohatchi community cemetery.

Rosemary was born April 22, 1933, into the Bit’ahnii (Within The Cover Clan), born for Áshiihi (Salt People Clan). She died May 2, 2016.

Rosemary is survived by her sister, Marian Davis of Crystal, N.M.

Rosemary is preceded in death by Harry Plummer Sr., Narcissa Rose Patrick, and Alvin Becenti.

Pallbearers will be Travis Thompson, Vince Natonabah, Ron Livingston, Steven Plummer, Geno Plummer, and Ryan Thompson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Fritzgerald Clinton, Jonas Clinton, Troy Murphy, Franklin Thompson, and Hardy Thompson.

A reception will take place at Tohatchi Chapter House following services.
