Littleman brothers take their knowledge to baseball camp
FORT DEFIANCE
Two prominent young baseball players and a pair of veteran coaches provided instruction to area youth at a two-day baseball camp, sponsored by Naa’Taanii Baseball Club.
Former University of Arizona Wildcats pitcher Vincent Littleman, former Centenary College second baseman Craig Littleman, Navajo Prep head baseball coach Bobby Bird and Naa’Taanii Baseball Club owner Dineh Benally provided the instruction to 20 youth.
“We taught them fundamentals of the game of baseball,” said Benally, who is also a Navajo Nation vice president candidate. “Fundamentals are the key to success to every sport. We drilled the kids defensively and offensively. We had good kids who listened intently.”
Benally said the Littleman brothers took time out of their busy schedules in Phoenix to provide the instruction.
“Vince and Craig are giving back to the Navajo Nation,” Benally said. “Vince and Craig both played college baseball. They taught the kid what they learned from their baseball programs.”
Vince Littleman played four years with Arizona. He began as a starting pitcher and later pitched in relief.
“This a great baseball camp,” said Vince, a 6-foot, 185-pound southpaw. “The kids attending the camp have a passion for the sport of baseball. The kids have to work hard to become successful. Nothing is given to them. They have to work for it.”
