A different Gallup girls basketball team showed up with its matchup against top-ranked Kirtland Central on Friday night.

The Shiprock girls basketball team are playoff bound. The Lady Chieftains (15-13) finished third in District 1-4A behind top-ranked Kirtland Central and No. 2 Gallup with a 6-4 record in league play.

Tuba City ended Snowflake’s 27-game winning streak Saturday night, defeating the Lady Lobos 59-54 to capture the 2026 AIA Girls Copper Division State Championship at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Saturday marked the final day for district championship games in New Mexico. The New Mexico Activities Association is set to release the state brackets for all five classifications on Sunday afternoon. Per the NMAA, the regular season and district tournament winners will receive automatic bids to the playoffs. Each bracket has 16 teams, and the rest of the field will be filled with at-large teams.
