Manuelito, Gallup girls dominate Window Rock Invite

Manuelito, Gallup girls dominate Window Rock Invite

FORT DEFIANCE

The sky’s the limit for the Gallup girls cross-country team.

That is what Bengal coach Kyle Benally is emphasizing as Gallup captured its second consecutive team crown on Friday morning during the Window Rock Invitational in Fort Defiance.

“We’re very young and we’re very hungry, so we just got to stay healthy and continue to get better,” Benally said. “The ultimate thing about us, is we don’t have any expectations. If we put a ceiling on ourselves, that is going to be as far as we go, so as of right now we’re not going to do that.

“The sky’s the limit with these girls, so we’re going to continue to work hard week-in and week-out,” he added. “We’re just going to get better.”

After placing seventh in the Summit race at the Peaks Invitational in Flagstaff for its season opening meet, Gallup captured the Miyamura Invitational two weeks ago. During the Navajo Nation Fair, the Bengals added the Window Rock Invite by finishing with a low score of 41 points Gallup placed four runners in the top 10 headed by the first-place finish from freshman Harlow Manuelito.
