Tuba City Warriors senior running back Brenton Goldtooth has stepped into the limelight and is having a banner season.

Despite his season, he says he would like to play in the state playoffs.

“Our team goal is to make it to the state playoffs,” he said. “We had this goal last season, but we came up short. So as a team we said we would make sure that this would not happen again.”

The Warriors are 7-2 and No. 26 in the Division V statewide power rankings. The top 16 teams earn a state playoff berth. The Warriors have a bye this week and will complete the regular season on Oct. 31 at Red Mesa.

The 5-foot-9, 155-pound Goldtooth is one of the state’s top rushers. He has 1,446 yards on 95 carries. When not running the ball, he has caught 17 passes for 387 yards.

Utilizing his quickness, Goldtooth scampered for 25 touchdowns, including 20 on the ground and five through the air.

Tuba City head coach Rick Benjamin said Goldtooth is a versatile athlete with field presence, sees running lanes and explodes when necessary.

“Brenton is a true blue chip player that is teachable,” Benjamin said. “He is a humble player that plays his heart out for the team on both on offense and defense.”

Goldtooth said his season is going well and as planned.
