The last two unsettled races on the Nov. 3 general election ballot have been resolved, Veronica Curley, the interim executive director of the Navajo Election Administration, said, less than four weeks before Navajo voters elect a new president, Council delegates and board members.
Polling places open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. The president, vice president and Council delegates elected will take office in January 2027 for four-year terms.
At the top of the ballot, Justin Jones and running mate Emily Ellison face Speaker Crystalyne Curley and running mate Chris Deschene. Jones finished first and Crystalyne Curley second in the July 21 primary, which eliminated incumbent President Buu Nygren. Crystalyne Curley is not related to Veronica Curley.
In Shiprock, Delegate Eugenia Charles-Newton withdrew from the general election after winning the primary with 971 votes. Gervana Begay, who finished second with 449 votes, will face Jonnye Begay, who placed third with 281 votes and moved onto the ballot in Charles-Newton’s place.
The withdrawal came as ballots were being printed. Jasper Long, a voter maintenance technician for the election administration, said workers stopped printing after learning Charles-Newton might withdraw. About 300 ballots carrying her photo had been produced, Long estimated.
