KAYENTA
Rough Rock, Arizona, cowboy Ralph Gray III finally broke the ice for the 30-plus bull riders at Friday night’s Laughter’s Memorial Bull Riding event.
The one-day bull riding was an Indian National Finals Rodeo Stand Alone Event held at the Kayenta Township Rodeo Grounds with Gray being the only cowboy to cover his bull.
The 19-year-old cowboy rode Tsosie Brothers’ 70 Jump Street for 74 points as he collected the first-place prize of $3,026. By making the only qualified ride, he also pocketed $3,704 in ground money for a grand total of $6,730.
“Oh man, this feels really great,” Gray said. “I’ve entered a lot of rodeos and I’ve not won a single dollar until now, but I’ve been trying (though). It’s good to finally get that monkey off my back.”
Of his total winnings, $3,026 will count to his INFR season standings as he is looking to make his second INFR appearance.
