Sitting pretty: Diné breakaway roper Kadin Jodie moves up in the WPRA rankings

CHURCH ROCK, N.M.

Veteran breakaway roper Kadin Jodie is still carving her way through the ranks within the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association.

After having a successful spring rodeo season, the Church Rock, New Mexico cowgirl has increased her profile with some big wins the past few weeks on Gray, her trusted horse.

At the Sisters Rodeo in Oregon, she set a new arena record with a 2.2-second run during the four-day rodeo that ran from June 10-14. She followed that up with a fourth-place finish in the average race on Saturday night at the Snake River Stampede Rodeo in Nampa, Idaho.

“I’m just very grateful to be roping with the best breakaway ropers in the world,” Jodie said in an interview with the Navajo Times at the Gallup Lion’s Club Rodeo on Friday. “I mean, this is my first time that I’ve roped in rodeos like the Sisters Rodeo and the one in Nampa, Idaho.”
