Two-time champion: Bareback rider Cauy Betony edges older brother, Wyatt, for Ceremonial win

Cauy Betony captured the bareback title, edging older brother Wyatt Betony by three points with a 159-point aggregate during the 104th Annual Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial Association Open Rodeo at Red Rock Park in Church Rock, N.M.

The Ceremonial bareback title came down to a pair of brothers from Toadlena, Arizona.
With an aggregate of 159 points, Cauy Betony repeated as the Ceremonial champion while his older brother, Wyatt, finished as the reserve champion for the second year in a row. The elder Betony rode two bronc horses for 156 points.
“I’m a two-time champion for Gallup Ceremonial,” Cauy said. “I’m just blessed to get this win today. My supporters and my family came by to watch me ride. I’m happy to have them here; they showed out today.”
The difference came down to what they did in the long go round with Cauy winning that round with a 76-point effort on Running B5 Bucking Horses’ Prudhoe Bay. His top score bettered the 73-point effort that Alvaro Begay turned in on Thursday night on Pass the Hat.
Wyatt, meanwhile, placed third with a 72-point score aboard Key Ranch’s Fistfight during Saturday afternoon’s performance.
