Rehoboth Christian senior Lauryn Keedah signed her letter of intent to play women’s collegiate soccer at GateWay Community College.
Before family, friends, and school administrators, Keedah officially inked her commitment to the two-year college in Phoenix on Monday afternoon at Rehoboth Christian High School.
“I’m really thankful for this opportunity,” Keedah said. “I’m very hopeful that I can contribute right away.”
Keedah has been playing soccer since she was five years old, and she’s attended Rehoboth since the seventh grade. She made the varsity team her freshman year and the past two seasons she served as one of the team captains on the Lady Lynx squad.
“This was my second year being the captain,” Keedah said. “My first year, I was a little nervous. I really wanted to be a good captain for my team, and to live up to the expectations for everyone on the team. I think I did a better job on that my second year.”
In her senior campaign, the Lynx earned a playoff appearance as the No. 8 seed as Rehoboth fell short to top-seeded Cottonwood Classical Prep, 4-0, in the Class 1A-3A state quarterfinals.
“I think we had a really good season,” Keedah said. “From the beginning, we had a little difficult time, but we slowly started to build up. Our team got more closer at the end; we started to communicate better, and we got better at placing the ball where it needed to be played at.
“Overall, we ended the season on a good note by making the playoffs,” she added.
Keedah said the school’s proximity played a key role in her decision to attend GateWay. While at the two-year college, she will be completing her core courses as she is looking to transfer to a four-year college in hopes of becoming a veterinarian.
“It’s pretty close to home,” she said. “I’ve talked to the coaches, and I would be able to play my first year as a starting position for defender, so I really thought it was a good opportunity for me to play there.”
