RIO RANCHO, N.M.

The Many Farms boys made sure one of their few trips out of Arizona was worth it, as they were the top team in the small schools division at the Rio Rancho Jamboree last weekend.

The Lobos captured the top honors with four runners in the top 25 to pull away with 105 points.

Quintyler Yazzie was the Lobos top finisher, coming in sixth overall with a time of 18:16.

Teammate Ethan Tacheene placed 10th (18:33), while Joseph Towne was 22nd (19:06) and Tywin Chee took 23rd (19:10).

Pacer Morgan rounded out the scoring for the Lobos with a time of 19:55, placing 44th.

“I think I did pretty good,” Yazzie said. “Many Farms doesn’t usually run in big races like this.”

Yazzie said that there was a lot more competition at this race compared to what he is used to, but he thinks it will help the team down the road.

“I liked it,” he said. “It was a lot more challenging.”

He said it was different seeing new competition, and running on a course in New Mexico.

“There was a lot of sand and the hills made it challenging,” he said.

Other Arizona teams that competed in the boys race included Alchesay placing third with 151 points and Valley in 13th (374).

In the girls’ race, Many Farms placed sixth overall, with Alchesay seventh and Valley 12th.

Valley’s Nizhoni James was the top finisher from Arizona in the girls’ race, taking third (21:05).

“I never really raced these other schools,” James said. “I think this will prepare me for state because I know there are girls that are faster in other parts of Arizona, and down in Phoenix.”
