Former America’s Next Top Model contestant Mariah Watchman (Umatilla, Ojibwe, Modoc, and Mandan) speaks at the “A Night With The Stars” fashion show.
Mariah Watchman stood flawless in her Shayne Watson designer gown that she had just modeled in front of a packed auditorium at the Navajo Nation Museum.
Watchman, a member of the Umatilla Tribe, brought together some notable Native designers, actors and entertainers for the fashionable occasion dubbed, “A Night With the Stars.”
More than just a fashion show, the event was a glitzy launching pad for Watchman’s company, “Dreamers Junction.”
A professional model since she was 15, Watchman was also a contestant on America’s Next Top Model as the first enrolled tribal member in 2012. Even if modeling has been a passion of hers, she said she’s focusing more on helping to establish a community for Native Americans to showcase their talents and creativity, and that is what her Dreamers Junction will do.
“I just hope to help aid and bridge a gap in Indian Country that we don’t necessarily have in the fashion and model industry,” said Watchman. “As much as we are supporting our youth in doing great things, we also need to support our Natives who are doing great things right now.”
