Even before the coronavirus hit, America’s food supply chains were woefully inefficient. Hunger relief organizations estimate some 52 million tons of fresh produce ends up in landfills every year just because farmers can’t get their crops to market before they spoil. Meanwhile, an estimated one in seven Americans struggles with hunger, most of them children.

The Navajo Nation and a multitude of volunteer relief groups are delivering food across the Navajo Nation so vulnerable elders and COVID-positive families don’t have to leave their homes during the pandemic.

The grassroots Navajo & Hopi Families COVID-19 Relief Fund, which has raised over $5.6 million since March, has now partnered with Air Serv International to bring aid to Navajo rural communities by air.
