Tyann Layton takes top showmanship honors at Eastern Navajo Fair

Tyann Layton has been a 4-H member for most of her life.

Through the program, she has learned about agriculture, especially showing animals.

“I love what I do,” Layton said. “For me, it’s very humbling. My family grew up with 4-H, and this takes me back to my roots, and truly knowing where I come from.”

The 17-year-old showed four animals during junior livestock judging at the 48th Annual Eastern Navajo Fair and earned the Round Robin Showmanship Award in the large animal division Friday afternoon inside the Larry 4-H Pavilion.

“I’ve won this at various locations, but for this fair I think I’ve won it like three times that we’ve been here,” the Diné 4-H member said. “Last year, I ended up not doing too well. I was under the weather for that show, but at the end of the day it was a good run.

“You know, these kids keep me on my toes,” she added. “I’m just so prideful of winning this again, but at the same time I’m humbled because it took my whole family to get here.”
