McKinley County has its first confirmed COVID-19 case.

The person, a 62-year-old man, reported his symptoms to the Kayenta Health Center. He was transported to a hospital in Phoenix where he is being monitored.

Despite a coronavirus pandemic raging around throughout the country and the world, voters will cast votes in the Democratic Presidential Preference Election at polls across the Arizona section of the Navajo Nation on Tuesday.

The hospital’s public information officer said she couldn’t reveal if the person is the first person who has been tested for presumptive COVID-19 in McKinley County without first consulting the Navajo Area office of the Indian Health Service.
