A request asking New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham from newly sworn-in Gallup Mayor Louis Bonaguidi to extend an emergency lockdown that has been in place since Friday has been granted.

From the state police checkpoint on 491, I-40 is less than two miles away, but through-travelers are told to go through Twin Lakes, Crownpoint and meet the interstate at Thoreau. The route requires knowledge of the reservation roads that often do not have road signs. 

Gallup will be shutting down for three days beginning at noon today in an effort to “stem” the skyrocketing number of coronavirus cases in the area.

Outgoing mayor of Gallup, Jack McKinney, has asked New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham to allow a lockdown of the city.
