The Central Consolidated School District Board of Education voted 5-0 on June 11 to approve a three-year contract extension for Superintendent Steve Carlson.

Board President Gary Montoya said the board supported the extension because district scores and student outcomes are improving, though he said more work remains. He also said this is the first time in over 20 years that the district has had a superintendent serving for this length of time.

Carlson said he plans to continue the district’s academic work and said his administration will keep building on the belief that Central Consolidated students can perform at or above the level of any student in New Mexico.
