Gallup-Navajo police aid agreement moves forward

The Gallup City Council has approved a proposed 10-year mutual aid agreement with the Navajo Nation Police Department that would allow officers from both agencies to cross jurisdictional lines during major disasters and emergencies.
The agreement, which followed roughly 18 months of negotiation, now heads to the Navajo Nation for review by the Law and Order Committee, the Office of the President and Vice President and New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, Gallup Police Chief Erin Toadlena-Pablo said.
“I think it’s been long awaited,” Toadlena-Pablo said.
