Grievances leave Council races unresolved after Navajo primary certification

The Navajo Election Administration has certified 123 candidates for the July 21 primary election, but three grievances and one disqualification have left more than a dozen Council delegate races unresolved until the Office of Hearings and Appeals issues rulings.
Interim Executive Director Veronica Curley said the certified field includes 16 candidates for Navajo Nation president, 85 for Council delegate seats, seven for the Navajo Board of Election Supervisors, 10 for the Navajo Nation Board of Education, two for Kayenta Township commissioner and three for the Naschitti Chapter Governance Commission.
The Navajo Board of Election Supervisors, now chaired by Victoria Yazzie, announced the certification in an April 27 press release. Former Chair Larry Noble resigned after filing to run for president.
