Pinon softball team sweeps Ganado
BURNSIDE JUNCTION, Ariz.
The way Rochelle Begay sees it, there is a bright side to their tough early season schedule.
In general, no loss is a good loss but the Pinon coach said those early shortcomings served a purpose.
“We’re a young team,” she said. “We struggled but as long as we learned from our mistakes I’m okay with that.”
Going into Tuesday’s doubleheader with Ganado, the Eagles lost eight of their first 10 games, which included a 1-4 outing at the Chinle tournament early last month.
On March 26, they dropped their first sectional game to Tuba City by a 12-2 count but on Tuesday they thrust themselves back into the section race with a pair of wins.
The Eagles rallied with seven runs in the final two innings to post a 17-11 win in the first game, which counted as a freedom game.
In the second, Pinon held off Ganado with an 8-7 sectional victory as they trail Page and Tuba City in league play.
