The situation looked promising for the Pinon baseball team.

The Eagles opened both games against Ganado on Tuesday with a couple of runs scored. But as the game went on, the Hornets pounded out hit after hit and capped the day with a pair of big wins.

The Hornets posted a 20-8 win in the first game that counted as a freedom game before turning back Pinon with a 20-7 win in the second.

With that the Hornets improved to 9-1 for the year, including 6-0 against opponents in their division.

“We hit the ball real well,” Ganado first-year coach Brad Burghart said. “We got behind in both games but we’re a team that’s pretty good at the plate and we got the ball in play.”
