No. 4 seed Tohatchi went on an 11-0 blitz in the fourth quarter to stun defending state champ and top seed Robertson 51-39 Thursday morning during the Class 3A girls state basketball semifinals at the Rio Rancho Events Center.

McBroom was referring to the must-see event between his squad and archrival Kirtland Central as the tournament’s top two seeds will play for a fifth time this season at the famed UNM Pit Friday night.

The tournament’s No. 2 seed, Navajo Prep, clamped down on the defensive end in the second half to post a 42-28 win over No. 7 Santa Fe Indian School at Rio Rancho Events Center in the late game.

After trailing 15-12 in the first quarter, Alamo Navajo was outscored by Melrose 21 to 12 in the second quarter, falling 66-49.

It didn’t take long for the Kirtland Central girls basketball team to distance itself from its quarterfinal opponent.
