TEEC NOS POS, Ariz.

After a lackluster return from winter break things are starting to turn around for the Red Mesa boys basketball team.

After two straight losses just weeks before, Red Mesa picked up two sectional victories, first over Seligman High School 74-42 followed by another over Rock Point 66-25.

With some players in and out due to the flu and other illnesses, Red Mesa head coach Boyd Johnson said the win over Seligman was a good one to pick up.

“We got the flu when we went down to Fredonia, from there it was kind of slow,” he said. “We got to get back on track from here on out, the last two we lost two games, other than that we’ve been hustling. Tonight we really did good hustling and playing ball.”

Hustle was an understatement as the team came out with a speed that they’re known for.

A guard-heavy team, the Redskins rely on their quick feet to make up for other assets they don’t quite possess.

“It wasn’t new we started that (playing quick) from the beginning and we did pretty good with that, we kept it going,” Johnson said. “We do have speed so we have to use our speed because we’re not that tall.”
