NTU concludes free summer youth camp with volleyball

CROWNPOINT

“Get active, learn skills and have fun.”

That was the theme surrounding a series of free youth camps offered by the Navajo Technical University athletic department.

For the month of July, NTU hosted six camps – running, baseball/softball, archery, football, basketball and volleyball – at its Crownpoint campus for kids ranging from 10-17 years old.

“The goal for these camps is to give the youth an opportunity to learn, and be in a positive environment,” NTU athletic director George LaFrance said. “All these camps were free, which is unheard of because all the other camps are charging. This is the only time the youth can be in our gym so we set some time aside so that they can be here.

“Other than that, it’s the students, staff and faculty at NTU who uses our facilities,” he added. “We want the kids to experience our facilities and hopefully one day they’ll come back to NTU.”
