Farmington boys chase down 1600 medley state crown

ALBUQUERQUE

With a chance to win a state title, the Farmington boys 1600-meter sprint medley team were all in.

The group, which consists of senior Dayton Bizzell, junior Daniel Austin, and sophomores Canton Cahoon and Cache Webb, overcame some early jitters as the foursome beat out a competitive field in Saturday afternoon’s finals at the New Mexico Class 5A state track meet in Albuquerque.

The Scorps won the race in 3:32.24 with Rio Rancho Cleveland High coming in second at 3:35.01 followed by Las Cruces Organ Mountain third at 3:35.17.

“I was a little nervous,” said Bizzell, who ran the first leg of the race. “I feel like there was a lot of faster guys than me in that leg, but I got out pretty good. I caught up to the first people out in front of me, and I feel like I handed it off well.”
