Going into the New Mexico Class 4A discus finals, Kirtland Central thrower Bahazhoni Crosby found herself holding down the sixth position.
Crosby changed the trajectory of the event by throwing her personal best of 109-09 on her fifth throw as that earned her a state runner-up finish.
“That was my second to last throw,” Crosby said. “I kind of just put everything together. I just threw it and it felt really nice. I was thinking that I was gonna get like third or fourth and as soon as I heard I got second, I was like no way did I get second.
“I’ve been coming here for three years, and all my hard work has finally paid off,” she added.
KC throwing coach Blaine Irwin said Crosby has been working on mastering the full throw for the past few weeks. Before that, she was utilizing the South African throw for much of the season.
