Continuing a legacy: Roqui Lee embraces new role as Navajo Nation Fair 4-H coordinator

A few weeks ago, Navajo Nation Fair 4-H coordinator Roqui Lee did a walk-through of the Lorene C. Lee Pavilion with a staff member from the Navajo Nation Fair Office.
They discussed renovations needed at the pavilion, which is named after her late mother. Lee had an “aha moment” when she saw old signs she used to refurbish as a child.
“We used to take them down every year, repaint them and clean them up,” Lee remembered. “My mom was a real go-getter, and she would be like, ‘Roq take those signs and repaint them,’ and so every year I would redo them.”
Now in her first year as coordinator, Lee is overseeing the fair’s 4-H events.
“I look at it as a huge project, and it’s been great,” she said. “I do have an advisory board that has been very helpful. We started in May, and we met virtually and in person, too. My advisory board is made up of eight members and they’re very knowledgeable. With them, I am able plan and organize this huge production.”
