ST. MICHAEL’S, Ariz.

Three Saint Michael Indian School graduates received Eve’s Fund tribute scholarships during the school’s May 30 commencement, where 28 students graduated.

Eve’s Fund for Native American Health Initiatives awarded the scholarships to Brooke Bitsoi, Ryan Legah and Grant Meyers. The awards recognize students for academic achievement, leadership, service and pride in Diné culture, according to the organization.

Legah received the Sister Katharine Barrett Award, which recognizes service, loyalty and commitment to the school. He enrolled at Saint Michael Indian School in middle school and played basketball, baseball and soccer.

Legah plans to attend Navajo Technical University, where he plans to earn an associate degree in construction and a welding certificate before entering the skilled trades.

Bitsoi received the Saint Katharine Drexel Award, which recognizes personal dignity and respect for others. She joined Saint Michael Indian School in elementary school and was active in the National Honor Society and Student Ambassadors. She also played volleyball and served as manager of the high school softball team.
