This is an open letter to my retired colleagues – licensed social workers who worked for years directly with our people within the Navajo Nation.

First of all, we are not protesting (“Men protest fracking near Buffalo Pass,” Sept. 21, 2017). To protest is to make a statement expressing disapproval of something. Believe me, we are way beyond protest.

What benefit to the Navajo people would ever come from the Navajo Nation threatening to sue the federal government over Bears Ears National Monument being reduced?

The day of the sheep butchering opened as Pax Harvey cited the unique butchering contest that puts the contestants at the top, a unique part of the Miss Navajo pageant.

There were no elder songs and dances. No elders were allowed to sing as a group. No best dressed for male and female elders.
