Naabik’íyáti’ rejects report
over outdated project figures
WINDOW ROCK
The Naabik’íyáti’ Committee on June 11 rejected a report on Navajo Nation Fiscal Recovery Fund chapter projects after delegates said the figures dated to 2024 and they still could not get clear answers on the status of pandemic-relief projects.
The committee voted 6 in favor and 11 opposed after hours of questioning over who controls the funds and whether chapter projects can be finished before the federal spending deadline.
The funds come from the American Rescue Plan Act, which sent the Navajo Nation more than $1.8 billion in 2021. Under federal rules, the money must be spent by Dec. 31, 2026, or returned to the federal government. Delegates questioned whether projects approved for chapters can be completed in time.
