FORT DEFIANCE

A man who allegedly stole a Navajo police vehicle ended off Navajo Route 12, north of Fort Defiance, after being involved in a high speed pursuit.

The unidentified man was loaded onto a gurney and taken to the Tsehootsooi Medical Center for unknown injuries.

The police vehicle, with its emergency lights still flashing, crashed into the embankment on the side of the highway. Its driver side rear wheel was missing, appearing to have sustained rear end damage.

The Navajo police officer, whose vehicle was taken and who was involved in the pursuit, appears to not have been injured.

Criminal investigators from the Window Rock Police District have begun their investigation.

No other information can be provided at this time. The Navajo Times will provide more details as they come in.
