Lady Scouts edge MV harriers for 3A North crown

WINDOW ROCK

An eight-point spread decided the girls team championship during Saturday’s 3A North Region Cross-Country race.

The Window Rock Lady Scouts edged Monument Valley for this year’s crown as Window Rock tallied 44 points to MV’s 52 markers.

“The girls are doing really well,” Window Rock coach Arileauna Davis said.” Obviously, they won the region championship for the 3A North. They’re really focused on winning, coming in as a team, so I think this one just gave them that push and that confidence that they needed for sectionals.”

Individually, Chinle sophomore Isabell Martin won easily, clocking in at 20:16.3. Winslow senior Sonway Masayesva finished distant second at 20:49.1, followed by Page freshman Valentina Jackson, who clocked in at 20:50.1.

Freshman Samiya Curley (21:01.2) was Window Rock’s top runner with a fourth-place finish as she clocked in nine seconds ahead of sophomore teammate Morgan Upshaw (21:10.7).
