A week after being shutout by Chinle, Ganado returned the favor in convincing fashion, scoring 42 unanswered points to defeat Window Rock 49-6 during the Fighting Scouts’ homecoming game Friday night.
The Hornets bounced back from a 50-0 loss to Chinle, using five passing touchdowns, a rushing score and a kickoff return touchdown to hand Window Rock their fifth loss of the season.
“Getting shutout is no fun,” Ganado head coach Kevin Watchman said. “That’s what I told the team, that they plain got beat last week. This win was OK after that loss, and Window Rock has a good team, but our team just wanted it a bit more.”
Ganado welcomed back senior quarterback Jayden Curtis, who missed last week’s game due to suspension. Curtis started the game but left with an injury late in the first quarter, prompting senior Landyn Denetso to take over at quarterback until Curtis returned in the fourth.
“He was a little hurt, but he shook it off, and our athletic trainer checked on him, and he came back in the second half,” Watchman said. “It’s like I say, recovery is the biggest thing that we need to work on, and hopefully he and the rest of the team can stay healthy for the rest of our season.”
