Facing adversity is nothing new for the Rock Point volleyball team.
The No. 2 ranked Lady Cougars (18-3) dealt with that at a couple of early season tournaments, so when they got down 2-1 in sets on Saturday night against 1A North Region rival St. Michael, Rock Point responded in a big way behind the hitting prowess of senior Pepper Pete.
Pete helped Rock Point rally with an important region win as the Cougars remain undefeated in 1A North play at 3-0. The set scores were 18-25, 25-15, 16-25, 25-19, 15-7.
“Well, we started out slow and I’ve got to admit that,” Pete said. “We all started out slow, and we didn’t know what to do so coach (Kyle Arthur) called a timeout and he talked to us. He said it was up to us to get out of this situation, so we adjusted our mentality and our attitudes.”
That new outlook paid dividends for the visiting Cougars and Pete, as she pounded a game-high 29 kills. A dozen of those kills came in the fourth set. She carried that over in the next set when she peppered No. 14 St. Michael with a variety of hits that led to 10 more kills.
