A new champion in wild horse racing will be crowned at the 113th Annual Northern Navajo Fair Saturday night.
Three-time winner Team Horsepower will not be making the seven-hour trip from Denver to defend its title.
Instead, six other teams will be looking to earn bragging rights in the winner-take-all format. The teams include Team Allen, Whitehorse Bros, 491 Broncs, Good Ole Boys, Oh Well Boys and the Gibson Boys.
“We have some veteran teams entered,” wild horse coordinator Marshall Allen said. “The Good Ole Boys won the Ramah Navajo Fair, and they have a good team. The Whitehorse Bros have been winning a lot of races locally, too, and they’re young guys from Ojo Encino.”
Allen said the 491 Broncs of Yatahey, New Mexico, and the Oh Well Boys from Tohatchi, New Mexico, are two new teams that have recently entered wild horse racing.
“Those two teams are really new to me,” he said.
