Under the biggest tent the Northern Navajo Fair has ever put up, couples two-stepped on the dirt floor Saturday night, Sept. 26, as Stateline played the first of two shows for the 113th annual fair. The band returns Saturday, Oct. 3.
The dance was only a warmup. Country singer Rick Trevino will perform Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Shiprock Fairgrounds in what entertainment coordinator Lynn Bia said will be the fair’s first headline concert since 2018.
“Every year I compete with myself with the entertainment,” Bia said. “Last year I spent almost $50,000 on my entertainment alone. This year it’s a little bit more.”
Bia had tried to land a concert for three years and had worked on this one since the start of the year. She said she had nearly given up before the deal came together.
“I kind of lost hope, and everybody’s like, ‘We’ll make it happen, we’ll figure it out,’” she said. “And we did. This happened within a week and a half.”
