Kirtland Central softball coach Dillon Mason was back at it again, working with some high school seniors during the New Mexico High School Coaches Association All-Star Softball Game.
The two-game series were held at Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho, New Mexico on Friday evening and Saturday morning. Mason was one of four head coaches selected to coach the all-star teams.
“It’s definitely an honor,” he said. “You know, it’s new, it’s different; some of it is a little surreal. I’m here to coach the best that I can and help the girls.”
Mason coached the Red team, which included a pair of KC players in pitcher Rory Benally and outfielder Amelia Gomez.
“It’s awesome and it’s great to get the opportunity and coach them one more time,” Mason said of his high school players. “They’re both great kids. You know, it’s going to be hard to fill the holes next year because Rory’s pitching was outstanding, and Amelia made some great plays in the outfield for us this year.”
