Area seniors help Green All-Stars to 2-1 win in three-game series

RIO RANCHO, N.M.

On Friday night, Navajo Prep ace pitcher Khol Johnson pitched three innings for the Green team during the New Mexico High School Coaches Association All-Star Game.

Rehoboth Christian players Johnny Zylstra and Trajen West also earned some playing time behind the bump as the Green team came up short to the Red All-Stars 8-6 at Rio Rancho High School. The Red squad also featured Zuni pitcher Terrance Smith and Hózhó Academy’s Brody Brown.

“Just like any other game, I went out there with confidence,” Johnson said. “I had confidence throwing my fastball, curveball and slider. That is what I did all season, but for the all-star game it was mostly to have fun and just be confident out there.”

Offensively, Johnson had one at-bat as he flew out to first.

“The pitcher they had was really strategic,” Johnson said. “He went curve ball, fast and off speed just to throw me off. It’s good to see that, and I’m just glad that I didn’t strikeout.”
