The Shiprock Lady Chieftains made quick work of their season opener Thursday evening, sweeping the Gallup Lady Bengals 3-0 at Shiprock High School.
The Chieftains controlled the first two sets before Gallup challenged Shiprock in the third, winning 25-11, 25-15, 25-20.
“It was good to face some competition for the first time,” Shiprock head coach Anthony Clah said. “I had a lot of new girls. This is their first varsity exposure. I really enjoyed the opportunity for them to show me what they have.”
Clah said the Lady Chieftains spent much of the summer in the gym working on fundamentals and preparing their younger players for the season.
