Students from Diné College earned first place at the American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) competition last month with their one-act play “When the Holy Ones Sent Coyote Down from the Stars.”

The play addresses sensitive issues that affect the Navajo Nation like elder abuse, alcoholism, homelessness, fetal alcohol syndrome, domestic violence, sexual violence against women and littering.

Their play was about how Coyote was sent back down to the Fourth World by the Holy Ones because they heard someone praying for more compassion, love and kindness in their world.
