Fort Defiance teen named Flagstaff Youth of the Year

Chellena “Chen” Castillo has been named the 2026 Youth of the Year by the Boys and Girls Club of Flagstaff and will represent the organization in the Arizona Youth of the Year competition.
Castillo, a Diné teen from Fort Defiance, was selected from a group of five finalists for the local honor. The Youth of the Year recognizes young people for leadership, service and academic achievement and is part of a national program for club members preparing for college and careers.
She is Tsin sikaadnii and born for Dziłtł’ahnii. Her maternal grandfather is K’aahanáanii and her paternal grandfather is Kinyaa’áanii.
