Gallup replacement hospital remains on hold

Plans for a replacement Gallup Indian Medical Center remain stalled as Navajo leaders seek the return of $60 million in federal funding needed to start formal planning for the project.
Once that money is secured, the Indian Health Service can begin a 90-day Site Selection Evaluation Report required before the hospital can move into design and construction.
Navajo leaders are seeking the return of the planning money needed to start the site evaluation and move the project forward. The Naabik’íyáti’ Committee approved the Gamerco, New Mexico, site in June 2024, replacing an earlier proposed location near Rehoboth, New Mexico, after concerns were raised about land size, transportation access, zoning, cultural considerations and drainage.
