Farmington police technician killed in crash

WINDOW ROCK

Stacy Peters, a Farmington Police Department evidence technician, and her sister, Justine, were killed June 29 in a head-on crash, Police Chief Steve Hebbe said.

Hebbe announced Peters’ death in a video statement to the community July 1.

“I want to update you on a tragedy that’s affecting the Farmington Police Department,” Hebbe said. “One of our employees, Stacy Peters, was killed in a car accident on Monday while she was driving with her sister Justine on their way to a family camping trip. They were struck head-on and both women were killed.”

A suspected drunk driver caused the crash near here, according to authorities.

“Stacy’s been with us in the records division for almost three years,” Hebbe said. “She’s been just a great worker, great employee––friend to many throughout the department. She is someone who is a hard worker, someone who is committed to the public and to doing a good job. She’s somebody that her co-workers relied on.”

The department temporarily closed its records division after employees learned of Peters’ death.

“Her loss has deeply affected our department and our records division in particular,” he said. “We shut down records yesterday when we became aware of the news, and it’s closed again today as we continue to process her passing.”

Peters is survived by two adult daughters, along with extended family, friends and co-workers, Hebbe said.
