They threw Naomi Hernandez a celebratory bash after she eclipsed the all-time scoring record for Valley Lutheran High School in Phoenix.

It has been a long road for the Iowa Meskwaki boys’ basketball team. They’ve been playing together since they were kids. Last Saturday night, they played their final game together at the Sub-State tournament, having the honor of getting their school, Meskwaki Settlement School, to the tournament for the first time in their program’s history.

Back in the day, Erika Dale was a local legend in the Farmington area. Like her classmates, the high school basketball star went to college, got married and raised a family. Now, Erika Dale Holloman watches from the stands as her second-oldest daughter leaves her own mark on the court.

The Meskwaki Settlement School is a high school in the Meskwaki Nation, the only federal recognized tribe in Iowa. Last night, the Meskwaki Warrior boys’ basketball team won at the playoff games for the first time in years and now they’re preparing for the Sub-State Finals, one step away from State.
